| This is a HUGE, emphasize HUGE, mistake by these youngsters. I can only hypothesize why Gen Y feels this way; but then I would be going back in time to the days of Wall Street past, or present? Here’s why this decision is not a wise one. These youngsters, with all due respect, are confusing “Wall Street” with “America”. When you buy a stock, mutual fund, or stock ETF it has absolutely NOTHING to do with “Wall Street”. You are buying America! You are literally, not figuratively, buying the American economy via the stock market/business market. You don’t ever need to interact with, talk to, or use any services offered by any “Wall Street” firm to participate in the growth of the American economy (or the World economy for that matter). By not investing in your 401k, IRA, or other investment accounts, you are discounting any growth or innovation for eternity. This has proven to be a near fatal mistake by all of the non-believers of past, present and the future – 100% of the time. Until that actually (not perceived to change) changes, Gen Y (or any generation) should use reason, logic, and evidence to make investment decisions; not emotional, political, or other influential irrelevant behavioral sciences that will lead you to make very poor investment decisions.
