Between
1964 – 1981 the DJIA went nowhere despite GDP increasing +370%. During
the next 17 year span the DJIA surged from 875 in 1981 to 9,181 in 1998
as GDP increased only +177%. This is counterintuitive to say the least.
So, what’s the culprit? Many, including Warren Buffett, say it’s the
rate of interest. However, during 2000-2010 the DJIA went nowhere and
interest rates were falling. Here is my conclusion, there is no culprit.
There simply is no way to predict when a bull or bear market will begin
or end. The best investment strategy for the Individual Investor is to
